How Long Should I Cook A Steak

How Long Should I Cook A Steak Before Considering It Done?

There is nothing better than a steak that is perfectly marinated and perfectly cooked. There is nothing worse than a steak that is over-cooked or even under-cooked, because by then all of the hard work that went into marinating it and seasoning it will be in vain.

Before you begin to grill, bake or even broil in preparation for your favorite piece of steak, one important question that you should always consider is, how long should I cook a steak? A quick search online will give you many different answers, but it all boils down to one important key: the size of your steak and the kind of steak you're going to cook.

Beef can actually be cooked according to your preference, unlike chicken or seafood which should always be cooked thoroughly. If you're new to cooking steaks and are still wondering over the question of how long to cook a steak, then there's a simple method to follow.

There are even simple recipes for hamburger steaks as well. If you're cooking a boneless steak that is between 1/2-inch to 1-inch thick, then they should be cooked for either 8 to 14 minutes for medium rare and 12 to 18 minutes for medium-well. And you should only turn the steak once, turning it more than once runs the risk of charring it.

If you're opting for a bone-in steak, such as a T-bone, and it's at least 1/2-inch to 1-inch thick, then you should cook it for at least 7 to 14 minutes for medium-rare and 11 to 18 minutes for medium-well. Just like the bone-in steaks you should only turn these steaks once as well.

When you know exactly how long it takes to cook something, like beef, then it takes a lot of the guesswork out of grilling and allows you to focus on the fun of grilling.

Keep in mind that before you start cooking the steak of your choice, it will need to marinate in order to get the best flavor. Any steak should marinate for at least 30 minutes in order to take in the best of the flavors, but for tougher cuts of beef, 3 hours is a good sitting time.

If you're pressed for time and need to marinate for a short period, then add some soy sauce to the mix. Steak truly is a meal fit for a king and when you get the cooking time right it makes for a much better meal.
